Why should women choose you as a photographer?
Just as different painters with their brushes and oils paint in different styles, so do photographers with their cameras and use of light. From my perspective, I see a timeless beauty and uniqueness in all women; a longing to feel liberated and to rediscover the facets within that have been let go of or misplaced for too long. A boudoir session is a sabbatical in one's life that refreshes and renews the spirit. It's a chance to play and dance if the music sweeps you away, it's a time to breathe in the essence of being a woman and recapture a part of you that may have gone forgotten.
Your work shows great understanding of the female form, what do you attribute this to?
I suppose being female helps quite a lot! Like most women, I wish I weighed a little less, I wish I were more toned (and a few inches taller). This allows me to be sympathetic to each client. The ability to photograph nudes and boudoir images, goes beyond a pretty client or perfect model wearing the right piece of lingerie, it requires a profound understanding of lighting and posing. Without that understanding, shortcomings can easily be emphasized instead of attributes. With over 17 years as a professional photographer in addition to my education and training, I give every client a session filled with inspiration, creativity, skilled lighting techniques for their individual figures, fun and beautiful sets to be photographed in, a heated studio filled with their choice of music and over 100 images to select from.
Why is most of your work in black and white?
I prefer black and white when it comes to nude photography because in the absence of color, the photographs offer something greater to the viewer's eyes. Without the distraction of color, the eye sees light, shadows and contours more clearly and a different level of sensuality emerges. The piece becomes a fine art image. (However, I do offer spot color, sepia toning and full color too!)
What is so special about in-house printing?
In-house
printing allows me to offer privacy to my clients. I have worked
in two photography labs prior to owning my own photography studio
to better understand the 'behind the scenes happenings'. Many people
don't realize how many lab workers view a photographer's negatives,
files and prints from start to finish. There are people in customer
service who log orders in and send files and or negatives on their
way to different departments, the lab technician who corrects the
density and color for the prints, the retouch artist, the person
who puts the mount boards on the backs of the enlargements, the
person who coats the images with the UV spray finish, the person
who looks over the order to make sure everything was correctly printed
and the people who package up the order to be sent back to the photographer.
For the comfort of my clients, I wear the many hats in this business
and have extensive, professional training in all departments as
well as a B.FA. from Denver University, a B.A. from Brooks Institute
of Photography and an A.R.P.S. degree from the Royal Photographic
Society in England. The printing equipment I use is state of the
art and I can offer prints as large as 24x30. Since a number of
my clients have shown an interest in color prints, mainly for the
boudoir images, I offer in addition to in-house black and white
printing, color as well.
Make-up suggestions
I don't offer make-up artist or hairstyling services because the images I am going to create for you are not glamour session photographs, instead they are sensual, sexy, playful, serious, artistic and intended for you and the one who adores you. Your husband or boyfriend will love the photographs so much more if your face in the pictures is the one he is familiar with. Keeping your make-up natural allows for your photographs to be appreciated in their entirety.
Photo Session Preparation
Give your mind a rest on the day of your photo session by not rushing here from one meeting with another appointment waiting for you just after.
Drink water and don't be worried about eating before your session, it's better to have a little snack than to be light headed.
Bear in mind that bras, panties, socks and some shoes leave marks on the body that can take around an hour to fade away, so loosen up your bra by one or two notches, opt for lose fitting undies, go without socks, slip into some comfy shoes and pull on a summer dress or other lose fitting outfit.
I have irresistible fabrics, lovely scarves, fanciful mirrors and charming props, but your own things will add a personal touch, so pack some pretty lingerie, scarves, jewelry, high heels or anything you'd like to include in your photo session.
